In fact, some might simply enjoy other gemstones, while others prefer diamonds with surrounding gems. Beyond the type of stone, there are also other considerations such as the shape. There are engagement rings in round shapes, square, marquise, oval, pear-shaped, emerald cut, and even customizable shapes like hearts. Then there is style to consider, not only of the band itself, but also of the stones. Would one medium sized solitaire diamond suffice or would you and yours prefer a cluster of smaller diamonds? Or how about a ruby, sapphire, emerald, or opal?

There are some differences between engagement rings for men and women. Usually the heavy shopping will be for the future bride by her suitor. Women's engagement rings can be more complex than men's.
