CLEANING YOUR CELTIC KNOT ENGAGEMENT RINGS IS 'KNOT' AS DIFFICULT AS IT MAY SEEM!
Once you finally pry that beautiful diamond ring off your jealous finger, how do you go about cleaning your engagement ring? It's not as simple as it may seem. Cleaning an engagement ring with hand lotion or hair styling products can dull the sparkle in your diamond. Worse yet, all of those cleaning products can leave a thick layer of residue on the back of the stone. Just because a diamond is a hard substance doesn't mean the coating of a diamond is-and that's what really makes the stone sparkle. Consider a few tips on how to keep your engagement ring clean without damaging the luster. Directions to Cleaning A Diamond Ring With A Celtic Knot Band A diamond ring should be soaked in a solution of warm water and mild liquid detergent. If there are some noticeable spots of dirt, then use a soft brush to remove them. Brushes that are stiff may very well leave a scratch on the diamond's surface! So don't use anything you wouldn't feel comfortable brushing your own gums with. Bathe the ring in the soapy water and then rinse it well in equally warm clean water. Be careful not to drop your ring down the drain! Better you feel silly by taking precautions like closing the drain or using a strainer then be sorry after dropping your ring down the sink. For drying, use lint-free material such as a light cloth. Some people have found using water piks effective as well as small wooden toothpicks. If you have to clean between corners with a toothpick, clean very carefully as the diamond were your own mouth. Other Cleaning Tips for Celtic Rings Do no use ammonia unless the diamonds have not been fracture filled. Fracture filled diamonds have coating on them which ammonia can eventually wear away. If you have a piece of jewelry that includes more than one type of gemstone, then choose the cleaning method that will protect the less durable stone. For example, though some gemstones might be able to be cleaned with ammonia, others may be too sensitive. If this is the case use a safe solution of mild liquid detergent and warm water to clean the ring. Clean your ring as delicately as you would handle your own partner. Don't take chances with your most cherished family heirloom. |
